Vehicle Crash in Lynches River

High Point Fire, Pageland Rescue, and Lifeguard EMS along with Lanes Creek FD from Union County and Tradesville FD from Lancaster County responded to a vehicle crash on Landsford Road at the Lynches River Bridge.

High Point firefighters arrived to find that a van had left the roadway, struck a guard rail, then traveled down the embankment , coming to rest on it's side on the banks of Lynches River under the bridge. Three High Point firefighters descended the embankment and pulled part of the shattered windshield out of the way to make contact with the van's driver.

Pageland Rescue 1 and High Point Engine 51 arrived on scene and began lowering equipment by rope from the bridge to rescuers below. Using cribbing and struts the van was stabilized and prevented from tipping over. The windshield and other glass was removed. Rescuers from Pageland, High Point, and Tradesville used the battery powered Jaws of Life from both Rescue 1 and Engine 51 to remove the van's roof and free the driver.

The driver was then placed in a stokes rescue basket and secured to a rope line set up by Lanes Creek FD and pulled up the embankment to the awaiting ambulance. The driver was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte NC.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
