Tuesday, August 13th, 9:56 PM
High Point Fire District responded to a report of a commercial vehicle fire near 1044 Highway 601 South. Engine 11 arrived on the scene to find a tractor trailer in the northbound lane with smoke emanating from the trailer wheels. Upon further investigation, it was determined that a malfunction in the trailer brakes had led to overheating.
Firefighters deployed a hose from Engine 11 to cool the overheated brake components. A thermal imager was utilized to monitor the temperature, confirming that the components had reached near ambient temperature.
Engine 51 arrived and established a blocking position to ensure a safe working environment for the firefighting personnel. Traffic cones were deployed to redirect traffic onto Therrell Williams Rd, minimizing traffic disruption.
Once the trailer brake components were sufficiently cooled, the tractor trailer was able to proceed at a slow speed, followed by Engine 51 to the Loves Truck Stop, where arrangements for overnight parking and repairs were made.
