The volunteers of High Point Fire were dispatched to a brush fire behind a residence on TB Watts Rd. Engine 51 arrived to find a storage building in the woods fully involved in fire with fire extending further into the woods. Firefighters accessed the fire from the parking lot of the Blue Sky Mart on Hwy 9, deploying 200 feet of hose to begin extinguishing the woods fire around the building. Engines 21 and 11 provided water and additional manpower.
Once the woods fire was contained, firefighters extinguished the remains of the building, having to remove metal roofing and siding to access the fire underneath. Challenges included heat, humidity, and obstacles like vines and briars. Lifeguard EMS evaluated two firefighters for heat exhaustion.
Security cameras from the Blue Sky Mart show 2 males coming out of the woods just prior to the fire being reported. The Chesterfield County Sheriffs Dept. is investigating the fire.
