Machine Fire

Old Castle Mulch Facility - High Point Church Rd.

High Point Fire District responded to a report of a machine on fire at the Old Castle mulch facility located on High Point Church Rd. Upon arrival, Engine 11 discovered a sifting machine filled with burning mulch. Firefighters deployed two hose lines and utilized a ladder to access the top of the machine, beginning the process of extinguishing the fire. Engines 21 and 51 arrived on scene to supply additional water to Engine 11.

After the majority of the fire was successfully extinguished, the machine was restarted to facilitate the removal of the remaining mulch, with firefighters consistently wetting the mulch as it traveled along conveyor belts to prevent any re-ignition or spreading of the fire.

Once the incident was fully resolved, firefighters returned to the station to wash and repack hundreds of feet of hose and other equipment.
